Learn about rock & roll
Rock and roll (also known as rock 'n' roll) is a form of music that evolved in the United States in the late 1940s and early 1950s, with roots in mostly African American music genres, and quickly spread to the rest of the world.
Classic rock and roll is played with one or two electric guitars (one lead, one rhythm), a string bass or (after the mid-1950s) an electric bass guitar, and a drum kit. In the earliest rock and roll styles of the late 1940s and early 1950s, either the piano or saxophone was often the lead instrument, but these were generally replaced or supplemented by guitar in the middle to late 1950s. The beat is essentially a boogie woogie blues rhythm with an accentuated backbeat, the latter almost always provided by a snare drum.
The massive popularity and eventual worldwide view of rock and roll gave it an unique social impact. Far beyond simply a musical style, rock and roll, as seen in movies and in the new medium of television, influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes, and language. It went on to spawn various sub-genres, often without the characteristic backbeat, that are more properly called simply 'rock music'.

The rock'n'roll musical genre has emerged around 1950 in the United States. The rock looks like a mixture of jazz, blues and country music, but also bluegrass and folk influences or European should not be overlooked. Since then, the rock has evolved and is now a style of music powerful and very varied.
Rocking (rock, rock), the jargon of black gospel singers in the southern United States, originally referred to a state of spiritual ecstasy, but thereafter, during the 1940s, the term became double sense, the most obvious being the movement of dance, the underlying sexual being.

But in the late 1950s, rock'n'roll lost its popularity and vitality: the biggest of the day "disappear", as Elvis Presley, the King, who participated in military service in 1958, Germany and hangs up the stage to sign with Hollywood achieving 33 films, quality much discussed, only to come back in 1968, the lackluster Pat Boone will take its place in the charts.
Yet, far from the United States, is preparing to take over. The revolt of young Europeans, particularly young Britons, and Germans and French, will use the rock. This revolt against an established order that they will reject the rock'n'roll, but will use it until today.
